Its really disappointing seeing the 3DP community continue to embrace Bambu after the inevitable closure and self-proclaimed Apple strategy. Disappointing, but not really surprising.
I hadn’t heard of their company culture until recently, but as long as they’re being reviewed positively, then they’re not going to lose customers. I don’t personally own one of their printers, nor do I plan to, but online reviews are what move units.

They have indeed been carpetbombing YouTube. It’s always off-putting when a woodworking youtuber with notoriously dubious computer skills suddenly receives an AMS printer and becomes an expert in fusion 360 and iterative design.
Clearly Bambu is providing design services for them so that their “I’ve got a printer, let’s find a use for it” shop improvement project is portrayed in a positive light instead of the youtuber bitching about the learning curve and frustration of failed prints. It’s disingenuous and slimy.
Fuck Bambu.
Meh. I bought it for my first machine because I wanted the easiest possible start to the hobby.
After learning more about how this sort of thing is their standard practice, I am not buying another Bambu.
Similar. Not my first machine but I wanted a low hassle “just print” device. I’m not spending my time tuning the printer, I want to print… This evening I’ve downgraded the firmware to 01.07 which is apparently the last “good” one before lockouts started kicking in. LAN only now and using OrcaSlicer. In terms of printing it’s a great machine, but I won’t buy from them again that’s for sure. Only plus was the BambuHandy app made the firmware downgrade a breeze. I was concerned that route would be blocked from 01.10 that I was on.
Their printers just work. If you’re not interested in printers, but only printing the apple-of3d-printing is exactly what you want, which seems to be the majority of people. I own a Bambu and a sovol, to satisfy “both hobbies”. But at the end of the day, when I just need to print a replacement part I spent a non-trivial amount of time designing, my first pick is always the Bambu. Sadly, convenience beats freedom
My prusa just works. Haven’t done anything to it in years other than change the nozzle. Zero failed prints.
My Prusa pretty much works. I’ve had a couple feed problems. I’ve had to revert the firmware twice because 6.4 and later just don’t work well. Prusa is stretching themselves thin and it shows.
Haven’t personally touched the firmware in years now. It works, I don’t need any new features personally. Can’t comment on the quality of new fws.
I have an H2C and it is my first, and likely last, Bambu printer.
I was ok with the idea of a “just works” printer, but coming from building Vorons… Bambu has issues that I cannot fix and Bambu does not care or is just super slow to address. First layer is bad for ABS/ASA and every sliced file needs a z-offset to work. Bambu Slicer is not great. My filaments are constantly getting deleted or won’t sync. The list of open GitHub issues is massive.
This nonsense now with a Cease & Desist does not sit well with me. I regret my purchase.
This is why courts and laws are the way to rein in companies like this. Because boycotts just…don’t…work. There will always be someone who will buy the product despite the issues with the company.

Bambu has offices in the US, and sells products there, and orca is also distributed there, so Bambu is trying to take advantage of the laws they think will benefit them.
However, DMCA wouldn’t apply according to the video. Mr. French says Bambu effectively left the back door unlocked.
Yeah I run Orca for my A1 because Bambu Studio is awful about connecting to it in LAN mode. Orca can connect and my home-assistant can connect but they can’t figure out how to get their own damn software to. Most likely to force you to use cloud.
I’d guess it’s because the code was hosted in a jurisdiction where the DMCA does apply, unfortunately.
