    A U.S. State Department spokesperson, in response to a request for comment on Merz’s remarks […], said: “The Trump administration remains committed to defending democracy and human rights around the world, including in Europe.”

    This spoke should get slapped immediately on the left AND the right side for such a bullshit response.
