I worked for 40 years at a place that mostly made rocket engines for NASA and the DOD; you probably wouldn’t be surprised at the number of people who had this one on their wall. Probably also wouldn’t be surprised at the number of family members who saw it and had to share it.

In case this doesn’t make sense, it’s a reference to Olduvai Gorge, a site where a number of skeletons that have proven important for paleontology have been found.

For the younger folks, that’s basically the plot of half the episodes of Bewitched.

I’ve always really liked this one

Blair was the child actress who played the possessed girl in The Exorcist. During the movie, she vomits a stream of green barf at the priest.

Well, the song is from 1941 - so would need to be a lot of years, though it was a monster hit, was in a movie, and stayed in the pop culture for a pretty long time. 1941 is decades before I was born.

This one might not make sense to more recent generations. There was a popular song way back with the line “Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo,” but stereotypical movie Indians called trains “iron horses.”

Came here to make the same comment. Cartoonists are good at getting to the essence of things. Is there something inherent in that personality type that’s drawn to the red hat, or is this just coincidence?

I hear you. I had the original doorbell cam, and early outdoor cam, well before google bought them. I was happy with them and knew I’d be selling the house.

My cameras are only outside. I have (had) speakers and lights inside. I’m against most of this kind of AI use. It’s a ridiculous energy waste for little benefit (I do think there are a number of good ML applications).

I came here to mention that I didn’t notice that when I originally saw this comic back in the day.

This one might need explanation. This old folk song had different verses people would sing, so there were basically different versions. A popular set was:

Like a lot of songs for kids, people often added a callback response at the end of every line (in this case, after each time it says “when she comes”). The one for the verse about killing the old red rooster was “whack whack whack.”

Not confused about what it is, but I am confused about why it’s in this community

I thought the clown one said “died” at first, and was thinking part of the joke was clowns being the brutally honest ones.
