  • Imagine accusing me of using reason to explain someone’s behavior and saying that this is not allowed because that person is politically immoral. Like, it’s astounding that you would even say this. Get it through your propagandized brain - even dictators behave rationally. Hitler was behaving rationally given a small set of key assumptions. As has pretty much every leader in the history of the world save a very very few who were given power when they didn’t earn it and it turned out they were quite literally insane.

Putin invaded Ukraine for rational reasons. Doesn’t mean he was right. But if you’re going to demand everyone you engage with literally abandon all of reality in favor of childish villain stories in order to be considered morally good, you’re just going to remain a rabid know-nothing.

Considering the proposed law about “Protection of Russian Citizens abroad”, which gives Russia justification to invade other countries for “the sake of its citizens”, I don’t believe he won’t try and invade Europe.

Yes, because what matters in invasions is paper and not logistics, arsenals, strategy, etc.

If Russia invaded Europe, it will leave itself so exposed to counter-attack that it won’t exist anymore.

And I don’t even know why I responded, honestly. You have zero grasp of reality and you literally opened with a demand that I should also stop examining reality because of the dominant Western narrative. Like, you don’t even care about truth, about reality, about reason. Your requirement for discourse starts at “must believe the comic book moral allegory of the dominant narrative in my culture”.

  • The US is literally the final torchbearer of the European global empire. From language to food to religion to fashion to architecture to white supremacy to racism to sexism to fascism to banking and finance to agriculture to child-rearing to education to philosophy. It’s the same continuous process. The US broke away from European governance, but not from the historical process of European empire.

Europe has lived off the spoils of 600 years of conquest. It will have to be unwound. The power structures will need to be dismantled. The wealth will need to be rematriated. Truth and reconciliation will be required. And it will hurt, because Europeans have benefited from brutal white supremacist empire for so many centuries that they don’t even recognize it

  • You should research it if you don’t know any of this. You don’t know anything about North Korea but you feel confident telling me things about it being totalitarian and that no one is allowed to leave? Why do you feel so confident in these things if you haven’t even done basic research on the country?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, mind you. I’m saying that you should reflect on why you feel so confident, despite literally not putting in the work to learn about the place. That would be like me saying I know what it’s like to be Polish when I haven’t spent any time researching their society.

And the reason I want you to reflect on your undeserved confidence is because I want you to see the system of narrative that you live in without ever realizing it. You are raised to believe things that you have made no effort to confirm or deny. This is a problem for anyone.

  • If you don’t understand the history of the DPRK as fundamentally a resistance history against US psychopathy, you should read more about it. The Japanese brutally occupied the peninsula. The US took over for the Japanese after they dropped nukes on them. The Soviets and the Chinese, being the long term historical neighbors of the peninsula were ready to help Korea rebuild resist occupation. But the US decided that this could not happen, and decided to bomb North Korea a until there were no more buildings and drop napalm in large strafing runs that forced Koreans to live in caves.

And then the Koreans rebuilt. It’s been what, 70 years? They went from literally completely scorched earth, poisoned land, to an actual function society while under total economic seige conditions from the West.

No sike. The DPRK is a full on resistance history.

  • Read the official statements of the Russian government. Compare them to the official statements of the Ukraine government. Compare them to the official statements of the US government. That’s a pretty good start.

Then you can read about WW2, and compare the difference between the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the Third Reich invasion of the Rhineland and then compare the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the Third Reich invasion of Poland. You’ll note that the invasion of the Rhineland was met with no real resistance, much like the Russian invasion of Crimea. Then you’ll note that the invasion of Poland was met with much resistance and kicked off major combat operations, much like the Russian invasion of the Donbas. But then you’ll note that there is a HUGE difference between what happened after the invasion of Poland and what has happened since the launch of the Russian “SMO”. And that should give you a pretty good understanding of what it looks like when someone is a fascist and hell bent on dominating all of its neighbors, and that should give you a pretty solid footing for assessing whether Russia is proceeding along a similar path.

  • I’ve spent the last couple years on the grad and on lemmy.ml and not a single one of them is delusional enough to believe that the Russian military is capable of invading Europe. The budgets, the materiel inventories, the enlistment numbers, the logistical vulnerabilities, none of it indicates that Russia could invade Europe, and none of it indicates that Putin is directing industry to create the military necessary to invade Europe. There have been no intelligence reports by any of Russia’s adversaries nor Europe’s allies that indicate Russia is preparing or has intentions or has the capability to take over Europe.

The lack of critical thinking lies pretty firmly with the Russophobes who can’t seem to decide if Russia is so weak it has to send soldiers to Ukraine without weapons and armor and force them to pick up gear from dead Russian soldiers on the way, or if Russia is an international threat that could roll all the way to France unless Europe spends hundreds of billions on defense. That’s a lack of critical thinking. That’s called cognitive dissonance. The enemy is both weak and strong.
