For anyone new to the Linux world, I can’t recommend Learn Linux TV enough. He has a video walking through this exact process, here’s an Invidious and YouTube link for it.

As far as dual booting goes, issues can arise after updates. I recall this happening a few months back due to a Windows update. So just be aware of this possibly happening down the road. I need Windows for work at times too, but I strictly use a VM. I’ve hated Microsoft since Windows 8, their amount of user tracking is bonkers and a big part of why I just use a VM. This is just food for thought though.

Well, since SearXNG aggregates results from more than 70 search engines and not solely Google, it’s a safe bet they’ll be fine regardless of Googles moves. However, sourcing results from Google may be impacted, but they still have many other options built in aside from Google. Whoogle being a proxy only for Google makes it reliant on Google, so their upstream changes will be very noticeable. This being the case, I’d say switching to SearXNG is going to be the best move as it has redundancy built in making it not dependent on any one engine.

I’m pretty sure just using the “sudo dnf update --refresh” command in terminal will fix this problem. It will ask you verify those packages new repositories. After that, you should be good using the store again for updates. This is assuming you upgraded from Fedora 40 before these errors occurred.

Be sure to include Nobara and Bazzite, both of which are gaming focused distros. Both are Fedora based, but Bazzite is known more as a SteamOS 3 clone. There’s also another gaming focused distro, it just escapes my mind. But I love Fedora KDE as is and then just installing the required software. So I’d say add Fedora, Nobara, and Bazzite for sure!

So Ubuntu has a version called Lubuntu, which used to come with LXDE, but now it comes with LXQt. So this will require you to install LXDE with the tasksel command, unless you start with Ubuntu desktopless. But I’d say to definitely check out Kubuntu, it’s the KDE version, and I feel like KDE and LXDE are quite similar. Both have an older windows overall appearance.

Linux can’t prevent you from permanently removing files. While in Windows it’s a chore to remove a number of files/bloat, which are then most often back after a system update.

While this is all news to me, the biggest difference seems to be that MarkNote allows for rich text notes. I’m curious to know what I’m missing, cause I’d think they could have just added this to KleverNotes.

Fedora’s KDE spin from April forward makes this a nonissue. Plasma 6 makes Wayland and NVIDIA get along like on any other machine. Plus it’s been splendid since Fedora 35 for me.

Edit: I only use Fedora for work, so not too sure what you mean. I make detailed graphical images which are blown up sizably and have had zero issue. Also never have had a problem sharing with Apple or Windows folks (jah help them).

It’ll allow for streaming from a camera directly into OBS. Unless I’m truly horrible with OBS, I currently can only get my screen and audio on a recording. I haven’t found an option to also have my camera feed be recorded along with audio, even with my camera as the mic. Meaning there’s no option to have your face in the bottom corner of a screen recording. So this will allow that to be possible.

Nobara could be a great choice for your setup. It’s a version of Fedora, made by a very well respected Fedora team member, setup with gaming in mind. It comes with many of the drivers you’d have to download using most other distros. Being Fedora based means you can tinker with anything you wanted to change. I recommend the KDE spin, KDE is known as the swiss army knife of environments. It’s super intuitive too. I’m actually in a bit of an emulator phase right now, I have had zero issues using KDE Fedora while figuring it all out!

KDE Gear intergrates in KDE software by adding applications, frameworks, and libraries to be used by KDE applications.

If you enjoy KWrite & KolourPaint, give Spectacle a go for screenshots. Works amazing on my end and it’s built into most KDE OS spins along with KWrite and Kolour. While I know the name Flameshot, I’ve never actually needed it as Spectacle is solid!

KDE is your friend in the trenches, Kubuntu > Ubuntu 100%

Regardless of whatever distro, definitely keep all your stuff backed up on an external drive. I had to “restart” my install a few times to get the hang of things. Yet I still keep all my info on an Vegacrypt encrypted external just in case to this day.

I don’t feel like anything is wrong with systemd, but options are apart of what makes Linux so awesome.

Windows and Apple both capitalize on most folks lack of minimal tech savviness plus being creatures of habit. So much so, Apple gave away laptops to numerous Silicon Valley highschool classes in the mid 2000’s, just to entrench them into the system.

I’ve been using Linux for a few years now and I still randomly think about what took me this long to switch. It’s how an OS should be made. It can simply be installed and used out the gate or it can be tinkered with to make an ideal setup. Not to mention the lack of invasive tracking. Windows is so bad it’s more complete monitoring of the users than tracking.

Regardless, August 2023 to August 2024 will definitely be the year of the Linux desktop! /s

I’m wondering if Universal Blue will be impacted if Redhat pulls a CoreOS move on Fedora. If not, that’d be quite a seamless switch.

More like doing whats best for everyone, which sucks for it to be considered shots fired…

Linux runs on will power!

There’s a wide user base in mind with each, so rarely does anyone use all of the included packages. This could be defined as bloatware, plus proficiency in linux to me means anything can be done via terminal or GUI. The base distro’s have some task which require the terminal, while mint and kubuntu are managed via GUI.

Kubuntu or Mint are great distro’s to begin with when starting your linux journey. It’s good to know down the road these should really be moved on from, but they’re great to get the ball rollin for sure!
