Easiest way to tell that you are on the right path is to have Trump threaten you over it

And they think the north/western countries are willing to pay for the massive debt of the south/eastern countries?
Europe is not a country, or a United States, it’s a continent made up of sovereign countries each with their own budget.

The entire article reads like AI slop. Like how they mention the numbers multiple times, as the part where they explain what invertebrates were found.

It’s sad that this still needs to be brought as “news”. This has been decades in the making. By now, I’m afraid either people don’t want to know or don’t care. And most people are just trying to get by and don’t have the energy, time, money or social security back-up to do something against it. We’ve returned to feudalism and it’s a sad sight.

Lives are more important obviously, but money makes the world go around unfortunately. Whatever gets people on board boycotting Israel goes I guess

Kaja Kallas seems to be one of the few officials left in the EU who are not afraid to use the uncomfortable words.

Ridiculous thing. Fuck cruise ships.
Also:
Also in progress is the fifth, as-yet-unnamed, ship, to be completed in 2028.

Well, it may have been better if we had never invented nukes.
Howeverrrrr, now that we do have them: countries don’t get nukes to actually use them. They are a major stabilising factor because they are the single most deterring force in the world.
That’s the paradox of the nuclear weapon, a most destructive force that can bring peace, a weapon that is most effective when not being used.

I’m neither, so please hold the accusations.
Yes they can do multiple things at once, but they have a finite amount of people and resources. I support the cause but I don’t think it is the biggest deal either. I’d rather we tackle the big issues and that both we and the EU invest our finite time in that.

I like video games just as much as the next person, but we seriously have bigger fish to fry in the EU right now.
We have a massive war going on on our eastern front, we have megacorporations trying to destroy our way of life while stealing our data, we have lost our biggest ally to a blabbering buffoon and his gang of goons, we have China trying to dump their goods on us to try and price our own products out of the market and on top of that, right wing extremism, racism and fascism are on the rise (again!). Yes we need to keep video game companies in check too, but I don’t really think this is such a big issue. Thank you for reading my hot take.

Yes, but the trend for bigger cars has blown over to Europe for quite some time now. I hope this oil crisis puts a stop to that, but I doubt it.
- Photonic@lemmy.worldtoEurope@feddit.org•EU moves to drop leather from deforestation law after industry lobbyingEnglish52·3 months ago
Everyone hates lobbyists, and it is not just a waste product like they claim but on the other hand, the cows are not killed for just the leather. It is certainly an extra source of income and a reason for the farmer to have and eventually kill the cow.
But the main reason for slaughter is still the beef and leather is usually a very durable – lasting decades – and natural product and the alternative is plastic products that just cause more microplastics build up on our planet. A good pair of leather shoes can outlast like 5-10 plastic sneakers. So maybe there should be a different set of rules for leather. I don’t know
- Photonic@lemmy.worldtoEurope@feddit.org•Starmer set to signal path to an even softer BrexitEnglish7·3 months ago
They’re still trying to appease the right wing extremists
There are growing discussions at the highest levels of the Labour Party about whether a new ambition is needed, particularly in light of dire poll ratings, but Starmer will stick to his red lines: that the UK will not rejoin the single market or the customs union, or return to free movement of people under his Government.
Politicians, particularly those in Britain, Germany and the Netherlands are afraid of the popularity of right wing extremism. They think that somehow they can still get the growing extremist part of the population to vote for them if they snuggle up to them. But the right hates their guts, so that’s never going to work. And what’s more: the left and middle is also feeling increasingly estranged, which you can tell from the growing polling numbers of the greens.
